TCC Faculty Inquiry Group on Online Teaching & Learning: Fall 2013

The Teaching & Creativity Center (TCC) is excited to announce its Faculty Inquiry Groups (FIGs) for the 2013-2014 academic year.  A FIG is a group of faculty members from different disciplines that come together with the goal of exploring a specific pedagogical issue.  During the semester, members will meet 4-5 times to discuss current research, develop new strategies and techniques, and work together to improve teaching.  FIGs are faculty-driven and provide a supportive environment for exchanging ideas.

FIG: Online Teaching & Learning

Leader: Lena Shiao (<mailto:lshiao@monroecc.edu>; please contact Lena to register or for additional information).

FIG: Online Teaching & Learning is for ANGEL trained faculty members who are looking for a supportive group to develop or improve their SLN course.  We will discuss issues facing online teaching such as creating an online presence, best practices for delivering course content, encouraging meaningful discussions and strategies used to effectively grade those discussions.  In addition, towards the end of the semester, members will participate in a peer review of their online course.

Goals:

-- To debate/discuss online teaching pedagogy.

-- To educate ourselves on recent research regarding online learning and teaching.

-- To share and exchange successes and challenges we have faced specifically in the online environment.

-- To evaluate and improve our own online courses.
