Local Media Announce MCC's National Honor

WXXI News and the Democrat and Chronicle reported on the recognition MCC received Monday, Oct. 15, from the U.S. Department of Education for an initiative that helps East High School students better prepare for college. MCC is among 24 organizations — and the only community college — in the nation to be recognized as a Together for Tomorrow Challenge winner for the 2012-13 academic year.

WXXI News interviewed Kate Smith, interim dean of Interdisciplinary Programs, about the importance of partnerships in the college-readiness effort and how the program addresses gaps in students' reading, writing and math skills. The segment aired during its Thursday (Oct. 18) afternoon and evening news broadcasts and is scheduled to air in the Friday (Oct. 19) morning news broadcasts.
