No one has actually asked me that yet but I’m sure it is coming. Every fall I whine about how tight we are for classroom space but this semester is the worse ever! We want to offer more classes. We want to offer them when the students want to take them, which is between 9:00 am and 2:00 pm. We want to make the class meeting times appealing so we go off phase. All of these add up to us trying to squeeze Bridget Jones into Renee Zellweger’s dress. It’s UGLY! It’s PAINFUL! It’s FRUSTRATING!
I’ve attempted to give everyone (146 requests and counting) what they need—smart rooms, rooms in close proximity for those with special needs, computer labs, furniture preferences, blackboard space, moveable chairs, quiet rooms and rooms that are not smelly (only one person requested this which I appreciate). Please check your 1F5 screen to see your latest assignments. If you weren’t able to get exactly what you wanted I tried to get as close to your request as I could.
Please understand that requests to move off phase courses may not be doable. Also, it will now be difficult to accommodate last minute requests, based on last minute course assignments/changes, for specific kinds of rooms. I’ll be glad to work with you to try to make your classroom assignments as adequate as possible but when we are this crowded I don’t have much wiggle room. As always, it is often easier to make switches within your department.
