TCC Faculty Inquiry Group on The Flipped Classroom: Fall 2013

The Teaching & Creativity Center (TCC) is excited to announce its Faculty Inquiry Groups (FIGs) for the 2013-2014 academic year.  A FIG is a group of faculty members from different disciplines that come together with the goal of exploring a specific pedagogical issue.  During the semester, members will meet 4-5 times to discuss current research, develop new strategies and techniques, and work together to improve teaching.  FIGs are faculty-driven and provide a supportive environment for exchanging ideas.

FIG: The Flipped Classroom

Leader: Kara Tierney (HYPERLINK "mailto:ktierney@monroecc.edu"ktierney@monroecc.edu; please contact Kara to register or for additional information).

FIG: The Flipped Classroom is for faculty members who are looking for a supportive group to develop or improve their flipped classrooms.  What is a flipped classroom? A flipped classroom moves the “lecture” (lesson delivery) outside of class time and moves “homework” (lesson practice) into the classroom.  In this way, instructors can spend more time working with their students.  Members of this FIG may include instructors simply interested in learning more about this practice, some who occasionally flip lessons, and those who regularly flip multiple courses.  We will discuss issues facing “flipped” instructors such as creating and distributing videos, best practices for class time usage, and getting student buy-in.
