There was also wide agreement among respondents that Monroe Community College was wise in choosing State Street for its new downtown campus, relocating from the Sibley Building.

More than half of all voters approved the pending move, although 27 percent said they don’t know enough to form an opinion. Twenty percent are opposed to the move, which Democrats in City Hall are fighting.

Numbers in the city were similar: 51 percent in favor, 22 percent opposed, 28 percent unsure.

City resident Bill Wilson’s daughter attends Rochester Early College International High School and spends some time downtown at MCC. It would be a change for her, but he believes it would be worth it.

“I’d like to see the downtown area continue to be developed,” said Wilson, an independent. “If this move will get that process going, I’m in favor of it.”
