The MCC Mentors in Violence Prevention (MVP) leadership team is offering a professional development opportunity for faculty and staff interested in learning bystander intervention strategies. Founded at Northeastern University in 1993 and gifted to MCC by Jackson Katz in 2008, the MVP Model is a gender violence, bullying, and school violence prevention approach that empowers us to take on leadership roles in our families, schools and communities. MCC is one of just three colleges in the world to offer the Train the Trainers Program.
Participants in the MVP-MCC three-day Mentors in Violence Prevention program gain awareness about gender violence, bullying, and school violence. They learn to intervene, act when confronted with threats of violence, and create lasting social change. Those who complete the training become certified to train others.
MCC is one of only three schools — and the only community college — in the world to offer this training and to infuse it into academic coursework, including internships.
The Train the Trainers Program will be held on November 6-7-8, 2014 at the Damon City Campus (see attached agenda). The Fall semester trainers are Susan Bender (Visual and Performing Arts) and Joe Sturnick (Law and Criminal Justice). Full attendance for the three days is mandatory. At the conclusion of the training, graduates will receive the MVP-MCC Train the Trainers certificate.
