After 33 years of dedicated service to Monroe Community College, Carol H. Adams, Dean of Interdisciplinary Programs, has announced her intention to retire as of August 31, 2011. Her commitment to MCC and her leadership in the area of developmental education are exemplary.
Dean Adams joined MCC in the fall of 1977 as a temporary faculty member in the Developmental Studies department. The following September she was appointed to a tenure track position as an Assistant Professor. Over the next twelve years Carol was instrumental in advancing the college’s developmental education program, attaining the rank of Professor and serving as the program coordinator and then department chair for over seven years. During that time Carol took a leadership role in the implementation of a college-wide mandatory testing and placement program. Carol began her service as Dean of the Division of Developmental Education in 1990, leading the division through the evolution to Transitional Programs, and then to Interdisciplinary Programs. Her contributions to the college have continued through the years, including most recently the development of our Education program and the growth and national accreditation of our robust Dual Credit program.
Carol’s dedication to students has always been paramount, and was acknowledged with the receipt of the MCC Excellence in Professional Service award in 1991. Her dedication to the quality of the college’s developmental education programs, academic support services, and diversity initiatives has left a lasting effect on the college.
