The Mosquito Effect: Support Tactics to Help Online Students - ITC Audioconference

MCC will host the ITC audioconference entitled "The Mosquito Effect: Support Tactics to Help Online Students" scheduled for Tuesday, July 25 from 2:00-3:00 p.m. in the Board Lounge with presenters Deidre Stidom, Online Course Manager, Dan Koenig, Associate Vice President for Instructional Support & Technology, and Lynn Mack, Director, Instructional Development & Transfer at Piedmont Technical College. Does it feel like a swarm of mosquitoes is attacking your distance learning staff at the beginning of every semester? Piedmont Technical College’s recipe for providing exceptional customer support includes an online helpdesk ticket system, helpdesk hotline, online and live pre-course orientations, interactive video with NetSupport distance learning orientations, a standardized course design template for all online courses, an online student course resource guide, a one-credit, "Introduction to Online Learning" course, and a welcome mailer to all online students containing a one-sheet "getting started" guide. Through team work, customer service training, and support initiatives we’ve been able to help students before their problems start, provide continuous assistance throughout the term, and grow a knowledge base for current and future self help - all with minimal staffing and expense … using technology.
