Upward Bound Participants' Efforts Recognized

About 16 Rochester City School District high school students and Rochester police officers came together to perform in a talent show July 29 to promote peace and strengthen ties between the Rochester community and the Rochester Police Department. The Police Teen Talent Slam 2K17 featured rappers, slam poets, singers, dancers and musicians.

Students in the Upward Bound program at MCC were awarded a $680 grant from the M.K. Gandhi Institute for Nonviolence to design a creative solution for fear, hostility, and division within their community. Students developed the vision for the talent show as a fun, safe venue to foster peace and trust in the community.

TV and radio promoted the show and interviewed event organizers Gwen Bell and Paul Stack.
