MCC is the first New York state community college to offer a two-year cinema and screen studies degree. In this unique program, you’ll explore the history and artistry of moving images, while learning about the business aspects of video and film. And you’ll work with accomplished faculty who’ve spent years in the industry.
The cinema and screen studies program gives you the opportunity to write original scripts and learn introductory production techniques. And you can apply your credits toward a bachelor’s degree in film, media, communications, or a related field.

Practice the Art and Craft of Movie Making – Write, Produce and Critique
You’ll build an outstanding liberal arts foundation in the cinema and screen studies A.S. program at MCC. The program introduces cinema as a medium of mass communication that combines two art forms (photography and theater) to convey powerful stories with vivid pictures and strong emotion.
The cinema and screen studies degree includes courses and electives in:

You’ll also critique films from many different cultures and genres, developing strong writing, research, and analytical skills.

Description
The Cinema and Screen Studies Program offers a strong Liberal Arts perspective on motion picture and television history, culture, theory, and production. Students are introduced to cinema as a medium of mass communication which combines two art forms, photography and theater, to communicate powerful stories with vivid pictures and strong emotion. Students investigate cinema and television through critical studies and create images of their own through scriptwriting and introductory production opportunities. Finally, students gain an appreciation for cinema and television from a commercial standpoint since these media exist not only in the marketplace of ideas but also as end products of an industrial enterprise.
Upon completion of this degree, students are able to continue their studies at baccalaureate film or mass media degree programs where they apply what they have learned at MCC to more advanced studies in this or related fields.
