The Rochester community and MCC volunteers, faculty, staff and students make Alumni Week and Homecoming 2011 a success

The Monroe Community College Foundation, in partnership with the Campus Activities Board, hosted a variety of successful events during Alumni Week and Homecoming 2011.  Over 1,500 alumni, students, faculty, staff and friends participated in 18 events from September 19 to October 1 in celebration of MCC’s 50th anniversary.

The week began with a Fall Festival hosted by CAB which featured a Michael Jackson Trivia and Lyrics Game Show—one of the many CAB events leading up to the Homecoming headline show.

The Child Care Center celebrated its 20th anniversary with a reception and dedication of the newly renovated natural playground.

The Alumni Cooking Demonstration, Tasting and Wine Pairing was once again sold out as alumni took advantage of an exceptional opportunity to learn cooking and wine pairing techniques from Michelle Bartell (Hospitality), Gerry Brinkman (Hospitality) and Dave Boni (Transitional Studies) assisted by students in the Hospitality Management program and host, Erin Julian.

Alumni from the Classes of the ’60s gathered at Pomodoro Restaurant and celebrated the much anticipated induction of MCC’s First Class into the Alumni Hall of Fame.

Former head coaches, Chuck Salamone and Tracey Britton, and current head coach, Sal Galvano, hosted an Alumni Women’s Soccer Reception at the Italian American Sport Club.   Alumni reunited with their MCC Lady Tribune’s soccer coaches and their teammates to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the team winning the 1986 national championship.

Homecoming weekend began with a Spirit Day Faculty vs. Students Basketball Game.  Faculty, staff and students wearing black and gold cheered on their favorite team from the sidelines.

A banquet was held at the Brighton campus honoring Bob Hurlbutt (baseball), Wendy Kotwas (women’s soccer) and Jake Wiemer (hockey) as they were inducted into the MCC Sports Hall of Fame.

MCC faculty, staff, alumni and community members raised $5,700 for student scholarships at the MCC Foundation’s 5th Annual 5K Walk/Run.  Top finishers were Jared Green, Jennifer Smay, Kevin Sheehan and Peter Brunett.  Awards were given for the most money raised by an individual, best spectator, best team spirit and most money raised by a team.  The 5K Walk/Run was followed by MCC Tribunes games, tailgate party, residence halls kickball game and ended with CAB’s Homecoming Headliner, Who’s Bad-The Ultimate Michael Jackson Tribute Band.  Special thanks to Sodexo, the MCC Bookstore and Rochester area restaurants and businesses for their support.

The Homecoming Alumni Classic and Luncheon honoring Chris Belle-Isle ’67 was held at Eagle Vale Golf Club raising $3,000 to establish the G. Christopher Belle-Isle Career and Transfer Scholarship.  Golfers and luncheon guests had the opportunity to meet the first Belle-Isle scholar.

The week closed with four alumni events.  The 50th Anniversary Community Photo, Eastman-Monroe Dental Hygiene Alumni Association Reunion Luncheon, MCC’s Dental Hygiene Clinic Open House and
alumni donors joined President Kress for a luncheon prepared and served by MCC Hospitality Management students in Reflections restaurant.
