Group Sharing: For Any Group Old or New

Ask each person present to tell the group about his/her name - first, middle, maiden, last. You might tell whom you’re named for, what your name means, what ethnic heritage it has, whether you had a nickname as a child (did it stick?) or have one now, and what you like/don’t like about your name.

Depending upon their comfort zones, this exercise can engage people on several levels, and often produces some surprising answers and a lot of interest. People come away with a new sense of both the things that make us unique and those that we share with others, membership in the family of man.
