Admissions Categories

High-Demand Health Programs (Dental Assisting, Dental Hygiene,
Nursing & Radiologic Technology)
These programs traditionally
generate more applications than can be accommodated. The selection
criteria, deadlines, admission requirements, prerequisites, and
commonly asked questions about admission to these programs can be

Early Admissions
(Admissions prior to high school graduation)
Candidates must demonstrate strong academic preparation through the
11th grade and meet the course prerequisites for the particular program.
They must also be recommended by their high school counselor, successfully
complete a placement exam and complete an interview with an Admissions
counselor.
Accelerated Degree
(Earn an Associate’s degree in one year - available in Business Administration,
Communications, Liberal Arts)
Candidates should have a strong academic background (high school average
of 90 or better) and have completed a college preparation program
in high school. They must also be admitted to the College full time
and attend summer, fall, spring, and summer. These students are
encouraged to enroll in Honors and Writing Intensive courses.
2 + 2 Program
(Guaranteed admission for high school students to one of twenty 4-year
colleges upon successful completion of an MCC degree)
The requirements are a high school average of 85 or better in a college
preparation program and completion of specific program entrance requirements.
These students are encouraged to enroll in Honors and Writing Intensive
courses.
MCC Degree Programs
Candidates should have successfully completed specific program entrance
requirements and successfully complete MCC’s placement exam.
Extended Option
(Admission with course conditions)
Candidates who lack either the specific requirements or need to strengthen
their English or math skills can be admitted to selected programs
with the condition that they take these prerequisites first. For many
students this translates into a three-year plan to complete an Associate’s
degree.
Transitional Studies
(Skill Building)
Candidates with a weak high school background and/or low placement
test results build skills in reading, writing, math, and study skills.
Once students have completed the necessary non-credit coursework and
prerequisites they are eligible to make a program change into another
MCC degree or certificate program.
GED Basic Skills Referral
(Non-high school graduates 18 years of age or older)
Candidates who are not high school graduates and do not score well
on the MCC placement exam can prepare for the GED at MCC to
build their academic skills.
