Frequently Asked Questions

What is a matriculated student?
A matriculated student is one who has formally applied and has been accepted
into a degree or certificate program. ONLY matriculated students may be
eligible to receive financial aid, attend full-time, or be awarded a certificate
or degree.
What is the difference between
full-time and part-time study?
The difference between full-time and part-time study is determined by
the number of credits a student takes in any given semester. Full-time
students are enrolled in 12 credits or more; part-time students are enrolled
in fewer than 12 credits.
Is
financial aid available to part-time students?
Financial aid is available to students who have been formally accepted
to a degree program at MCC. Students must be enrolled in a minimum of
six credit hours (usually two 3-credit-hour courses) per semester.
How many credits should I take?
For each credit you take, you should plan on studying a minimum of 2 hours
per week. The number of credits you take should equal the time commitment
you will be able to set aside towards your studies. For example:
| 6 credits
6 hours in class/week x 2
=
12 hours studying/week
18 hour commitment/week |
15 credits
15 hours in class/week x 2
=
30 hours studying/week 45 hour commitment/week |
What if I am uncertain regarding my program choice?
If you are uncertain in which program you would like to enroll, an admissions
counselor can assist you. There are some courses that can be used in a
variety of programs. You should apply to the College as an undecided student.
What is the difference between an A.S. and
an A.A.S. degree?
A.S. degrees are designed to prepare a student for transfer to a 4-year
institution to pursue their bachelor's degree. A.A.S. degrees are "career"
programs which prepare students for employment. A.A.S. graduates sometimes
pursue a bachelor's degree but should seek advisement if transfer is their
goal.
Are there campus tours?
Yes! Tours of the Brighton Campus, the Damon City Campus and the Applied
Technologies Center are given regularly. For tour information, visit the
Campus Tours page or call, (585)
292-2200.
Is it best to get all of this done early?
Absolutely, yes. It is advisable to apply early so that you can be accepted
and registered early. Students who register early will have the best opportunity
to select the courses and times they want.
