  2. Transfer Credit - Transfer credit awarded for work satisfactorily completed at another accredited college or university. To receive a transfer credit evaluation you need to request official transcripts be sent to the Admissions Office.
  3. Departmental (Proficiency/Challenge) Examinations - A student who can demonstrate knowledge in a particular subject may earn credit for certain courses without attending classes, by taking a special examination through the appropriate department. Contact Department Chair within discipline you want to challenge for examination information.
  4. Online Learning and Hybrid Courses via the World Wide Web - Credit courses offered on the Internet through the MCC SUNY Learning Network (online). Currently, 40 campuses from the State University of New York offer graduate and undergraduate online courses. Participate in the class from your home, your office, the MCC campus computer labs or public library. Courses taken may be used toward degree requirements.

In addition, the following programs can be completed entirely online:

  5. Nationally Standardized Testing Programs - College-level examinations such as CLEP and DANTES taken in a variety of subjects may earn college credit outside the classroom, if acceptable scores are attained.
  6. Credit for Military Training - Educational opportunities while in the military and evaluated by the American Council on Education (ACE) may translate into academic credit. To receive a transfer credit evaluation, matriculated students need to send a copy of their DD-214 to Veterans Services in the Counseling Center.
  7. Portfolio Assessment - Credit may be awarded for verifiable college-level learning acquired through significant life or work experience. Documented learning must be equivalent to courses offered at MCC. Contact Office of Adult Learning for more information - (585) 292-2016.
  8. Independent Study - Qualified students may work independently under the guidance of a faculty sponsor at MCC. (Note: Independent Study is not intended as a substitute for an existing course.)
  9. Corporate Training, Professional Courses, and Workshops - You can earn credit for experiences through in-service training offered at your worksite and through education courses sponsored by professional organizations to which you belong, when they have made a substantial contribution to your learning.

All MCC programs (except Dual Admission) may be completed on a part-time basis (fewer than 12 credit hours). Please note: Some high demand programs have to be completed in sequential semesters. Students who do not attend for consecutive semesters would need to reapply for admission.
