Opportunities for Honors Students
At Monroe Community College

Monroe Community College has a long history
of providing a variety of academic opportunities for highly motivated
students.
While still
in high school, academically strong
students have several options to earn college credit. Eligible high
school juniors and seniors who wish to add a college course to their high
school schedule, and have exhausted all of the opportunities their high
school has to offer, may consider MCC’s Monroe
Advantage Program. This opportunity enables students to get a head
start on college and/or complete some required classes before graduating
from high school. Academically exceptional and mature students may also
consider MCC’s Early Admission option,
which allows students to take their senior year of classes at MCC and
transfer the credit back to their high school.
High school juniors and seniors who are
interested in finding out about the opportunities for honor students
are encouraged to attend one of the college’s Honors
Information Sessions and Campus Tours. These sessions are designed
for students who have excelled academically in high school and would like
to pursue a challenging and rewarding academic experience.
Many students choose to apply for one
of our 2+2/Dual Admission Programs, a specially
designed Certificate in
Honors Studies,
as well as Honors Seminars and Honors
Sections or the college’s Accelerated
Degree. Each of these opportunities has specific admission requirements
that all applicants must meet in order to be considered.
Academically strong high school students should
also apply to the MCC Scholars
Program, the college’s Honors Scholarship. Recent winners have
all had a 90 average or better in high school. Applications are available
in late January and are mailed to accepted students. To be considered,
applications must be submitted by the end of March.
