PHI THETA KAPPA
Academically strong students, while enrolled
at MCC, may apply for membership into Alpha Theta Iota,
MCC’s nationally acclaimed chapter of the Phi Theta Kappa
Honor Society. PTK members are also eligible to apply for thousands
of dollars in Honors Scholarships when they are ready to transfer to a
four-year school.
- Phi Theta Kappa is the honor society for the
nation’s two-year colleges, and has chapters at more than 700
colleges throughout the country.
- To be considered for membership, students must
have earned at least 18 credits toward their degree (with at least 15
of those credits earned at MCC), and have a minimum grade-point average
of 3.75.
- MCC Chapter, Alpha Theta Iota,
has won numerous prestigious awards, and is regularly recognized as
one of the top chapters in the country.
- At MCC, 400 students on average are members
of PTK each semester.

Benefits
- $32 million available for transfer scholarships,
at more than 350 universities
- Guistwhite Scholarships ($60,000), awarded
exclusively to PTK members
- Stipends totaling $5,000 awarded through the
Phi Theta Kappa/USA Today/AACC-sponsored All-USA Academic Team program.
Team nominees many also apply for Society internships at prestigious
Washington, D.C. agencies
- National Dean’s List
- “Leaders of Promise” Scholarship
opportunity, benefiting active members while they are enrolled in their
two year institutions
- Letters of recommendation
