1. Where can I get information about Health Services?
You can go to the Health Services
web site for information. Go to www.monroecc.edu, click on Prospective
Student, then under Student Life click on Student Services; in the top
bar click on Health Services.
2. What services do you offer to a student free of charge?
We have Registered Nurses available 8:45 – 4:45 Monday through
Friday when the college is open. A Nurse Practitioner is available three
to four hours a day during Fall and Spring semesters. The Nurse
Practitioner is able to write a prescription for students to take to the
pharmacy to have filled. They cannot refill an existing prescription.
3. Does Health Services do any lab testing?
We do not do diagnostic testing here. The Nurse Practitioner can order
blood work or other tests to be done at a lab and the student will be
responsible for the fees associated with the lab work.
4. Do you do medical withdrawals from school?
No, we do not do medical withdrawals from school. If you have been
away from classes, or are going to be, out for two weeks or more, and
we receive a note from your doctor, we can notify your professors. Total
withdrawal from classes must be handled by students individually.
5. We have moved several times and I can’t get my immunizations
from my school. What should I do?
If you have been to another college or in the military, you may request
your medical records from them. You may also have a Blood Titer test for Measles, Mumps and Rubella
taken by your doctor or a clinic. If the test comes back positive submit the lab results
to Health Services and you will have met the requirements. If they are
not positive, you will need to receive at least one MMR shot.
6. If we have immunizations sent or faxed to Health Services
do you call to tell me if you have or have not received them?
No, we do not call individual students. If we receive your immunizations
and you are not up-to-date we will send you a letter stating what you
still need to have.
7. My mom has my immunizations in my baby book, is that acceptable
proof that I have received them?
Unless the information is documented by a doctor, doctor’s office
or nurse, we cannot accept it as proof of immunization.
8. Does the college offer health insurance?
All students taking nine credit hours or more automatically have accident
insurance. The fee is included in your tuition. If you are taking less
than nine credit hours you may purchase the accident insurance from the
Bursar’s office.
There is an Optional Sickness Insurance available to all students regardless
of the number of credit hours you are taking. This insurance is purchased
directly from Niagara National Insurance in Buffalo, NY.
Please call Health Services and we can send you a brochure outlining
the insurance.
