FAQs - Frequently Asked Questions

Q:  Are there scholarship opportunities for the athletes at MCC?

A:  Yes, there are scholarship opportunities for our athletes, but only for division I and II sports.

Sports teams that can offer athletic scholarships are; men and women's soccer, baseball, swimming, men and women's basketball, lacrosse, and hockey.

Q:  Do athletes typically go on to four year colleges and universities to continue there academic and athletic careers?

A:  Yes, a majority of the student-athletes move on and continue their education. Being that our sports teams are so strong it allows our athletes to gain a lot of exposure all over the country.

Q:  Do the athletes have academic support accessible to them if they need it?

A:  Yes, we have an academic advisor who works solely with our student-athletes. She registers the student-athletes for classes before the semester begins. She also tracks them several times throughout the  semester to make sure their grades are sufficient. MCC also has a building which houses all the learning centers. Anytime throughout a school day a student can walk in and receive assistance in such areas as; psychology, math, English, accounting, nursing, computers and transitional studies.

Q:  Will transportation and meal money be provided to student athletes for away competition?

A:  Yes, each coach is given meal money for his or her athletes.  Buses are also supplied depending on how long the trip is. If necessary, some teams will fly to their competition.

Q:  If I transfer onto a four year college will all my credits transfer?

A:  It depends on many things, but for the most part yes. If you decide that when you come to MCC you already know where you want to go afterwards, you can do the 2+2 program. All credits will transfer if you are in a 2+2 program as long as the grades meet the requirement for the institution that you wish to transfer to.  If you don't know exactly where you want to go that is ok too, your core courses will transfer as long as your grade is a C or better. Advisors are accessible to all students, it is wise to consistently check with them on the status of your transcript.

Q:  Is there a trainer for the athletic teams?

A: Yes, we have an outstanding full time and part time trainer. The head trainer, Doug Henneberg runs the training program at MCC. He is knowledgeable and very approachable. He attends all home competitions.
