Big bats help Tribunes sweep Allegany

CUMBERLAND, MD - The MCC offense broke out in a big way Sunday as the Tribunes swept a doubleheader from host Allegany College of Maryland.  Scores were 12-3 and 12-10.

Monroe banged out 18 hits in the opener.  Matt McGovern (Ottawa, ON/Gloucester) paced the attack, going 4-for-4 with two doubles and four runs batted in.  Steve Muoio (Webster, NY/Webster Thomas) added two hits, including a homer, and three RBIs.

Mike Tokessy (Kanata, ON/Earl of March) notched his third win of the year, scattering seven hits and striking out five in the complete game performance.

Cory Brownsten (Lockport, NY/Lockport) chipped win with three hits and three runs scored, while Kaleb Cunningham (Canton, NY/Stockton) went 2-for-5 with two runs scored and two RBIs. Nate Grabowski (Pennellville, NY/Phoenix) had a solo homer.

MCC (17-9) jumped out to a 9-0 lead in game two on the strength of a seven-run second inning.  The frame was highlighted by a two-run single from Dan Kaplan (Rochester, NY/Penfield) and a three-run homer from Muoio.

Allegany fought back with a seven-run inning of its own in the fourth to tie the game at nine.  The Tribunes went ahead 10-9 on a sac fly by Cunningham in the fifth.

MCC then added two more in the seventh to help put the game away. After Cunningham reached on a fielder's choice, Kaplan launched a twp-run homer that provided the eventual winning runs.

Kaplan finished with three hits and four RBIs. Muoio also drove in four, while Pat Corrigan (Rochester, NY/Rush-Henrietta) went a perfect 4-for-4 with three runs scored.

Josh Michalko (Fairport, NY/Fairport) picked up the win in relief.  Brandon DeRosa (Fairport, NY/Fairport) came on to get the final out for the save.
