MCC baseball heads south to start the season

Massasoit CC 6, MCC 2 (March 14)

COCOA BEACH, FL - Massasoit took advantage of seven MCC walks to pick up the victory.  The Tribunes (0-1) scored two unearned runs in the first.  Dan Kaplan went 2-for-3 for MCC while Kaleb Cunningham added two hits as well.  Starter Pat Urckfitz went 4 2/3 innings, striking out five.

MCC 8, Ontario Blue Jays 5, 6 innings (March 14)

COCOA BEACH, FL - Mike Tokessy earned the win on the mound, going five strong innings. The sophomore allowed just one unearned run and four hits while striking out five.  Jamie Fitzgerald led the offense, going 3-for-4 with a double and two runs batted in. Nate Grabowski had two hits and an RBI, while Kaleb Cunningham, Ryan Gleason, Steve Muoio, and Cory Brownsten each drove in a run for MCC (1-1).

MCC 7, UConn-Avery Point 6 (March 15)

COCOA BEACH, FL - Pat Corrigan's bases-loaded hit drove in the winning run in the seventh for the Tribunes (2-1).  Avery Point trailed late before rallying to take a one-run lead. Cory Brownsten then hit an RBI triple to the score at 6.  Nate Grabowski had two hits and Brownsten also added a homer.  Josh Michalko struck out the only batter he faced to pick up the victory in relief.

Ridgewater CC 1, MCC 0, 8 innings (March 15)

COCOA BEACH, FL - Ridgewater scored the winning run in the bottom of the eighth on a one-out single with runners on first and third.  Steve Forster pitched a gem in defeat for the Tribunes (2-2), going the distance while striking out 10, allowing six hits and walking two.

Miami-Dade 9, MCC 1 (March 16)

MIAMI, FL - Miami-Dade scored five first-inning runs and never looked back in the single game, which was shortened from a doubleheader.  Steve Muoio went 2-for-3 for the Tribunes (2-3).  Cory Brownsten added two hits as well.  Dade came into the week winners of 25 of its first 26 games.

MCC 4, Central Florida CC 0 (March 17)

OCALA, FL - Matt McGovern pitched a complete game shutout, allowing just four hits and striking out eight to lead the Tribunes (3-3) to victory.  Nate Grabowski went 2-for-3 with a double and two runs batted in and Kaleb Cunningham added a double and an RBI.  Cory Brownsten drove in the other run.

MCC 3, Central Florida CC 2 (March 17)

OCALA, FL - Tim Terhaar picked up his first collegiate victory, allowing one earned run and striking out three in 5 2/3 innings. Brandon DeRosa recorded the last four outs for the save.  Cory Brownsten and Steve Muoio each had solo home runs, while John Morrison had a hit and an RBI. Kaleb Cunningham chipped in with two hits for MCC (4-3).

St. John's River CC 7, MCC 5 (March 18)

ST. JOHN'S RIVER, FL - Cory Brownsten went 2-for-3 with two runs batted in for the Tribunes (4-4).  Steve Muoio went 2-for-4 with an RBI and Kaleb Cunningham added two hits as well.

MCC 8, St. John's River CC 4 (March 18)

ST. JOHN'S RIVER, FL - Pat Corrigan picked up his first collegiate victory, tossing six strong innings and striking out four.  Matt McGovern paced the offense, going 3-for-3 with a 3-run homer and four RBIs.  Steve Muoio and Kaleb Cunningham each added two hits.

Central Florida CC 9, MCC 5 (March 19)

OCALA, FL - Central Florida scored six runs in the seventh inning - including two inside-the-park home runs - to come back for the victory.  Kaleb Cunningham went 3-for-4 and Cory Brownsten added two hits and two RBIs.  Nate Grabowski finished 2-for-5 and Steve Muoio drove in a run for MCC (5-5).

MCC 15, Daytona Beach CC 13, 10 innings (March 21)

DAYTONA BEACH, FL - Matt McGovern's two-run double in the top of the 10th inning provided the winning runs for the Tribunes (6-5).  McGovern also picked up the win in relief, allowing one hit and striking out two in two innings.  Steve Muoio went 4-for-5 with three RBIs and Nate Grabowski added four hits and two runs batted in.  Mike Tomeno and Cory Brownsten each had two hits.

Daytona Beach CC 8, MCC 5 (March 21)

DAYTONA BEACH, FL - Nate Grabowski and Steve Muoio each went 4-for-4 to finish with eight hits apiece on the day. Muoio drove in two runs for the Tribunes, who wrapped up their spring trip with a record of 6-6.
