Tribunes head into regionals on high note
BUFFALO - Nate Grabowski (Pennellville, NY/Phoenix) hit a grand slam, Jeff Osler (Frankville, ON/St. Mary's) added his first homer, and Matt McGovern (Ottawa, ON/Gloucester) improved to 6-0 as MCC defeated Erie CC 15-4 Sunday.
The Tribunes wrapped up the regular season with a record of 31-12. MCC will be the top seed at next weekend's Region III, Division II tournament at Mercyhurst North East.
Grabowski's slam highlighted a seven-run second inning that broke the game open. Osler had hit his first collegiate homer earlier in the inning as MCC took control.
McGovern went the distance for Monroe, scattering four hits and striking out nine to push his record to 6-0 on the year. The sophomore also added three hits and three RBIs at the plate.
Kaleb Cunningham (Canton, NY/Stockton) was 3-for-4 with two runs scored and two RBIs. Pat Corrigan (Rochester, NY/Rush-Henrietta) had with three hits and two runs, while Grabowski finished with five RBIs.
Dan Kaplan (Rochester, NY/Penfield) was 2-for-3 with two runs scored for MCC.
