MCC sweeps Ithaca JVs
ROCHESTER - The MCC baseball team prepped for its conference schedule in fine fashion Thursday afternoon, sweeping a doubleheader from the Ithaca JVs 11-3 and 7-3.
The Tribunes (23-10) will face Region III, Division II opponent Mercyhurst North East four times this weekend. MCC will face its other divisional opponent, rival Alfred State, four times next week.
Tim Seil (Rochester, NY/Brighton) earned his first win in the opener, tossing a complete game four-hitter. The freshman allowed three earned runs and struck out four.
Nate Grabowski (Pennellville, NY/Phoenix) went 2-for-3 with two runs scored and two RBIs for MCC. Jamie Fitzgerald (Nepean, ON/Merivale) added two hits and two RBIs, while Kaleb Cunningham (Canton, NY/Stockton) went 2-for-3 with three runs scored.
Dan Kaplan (Rochester, NY/Penfield) and Cory Brownsten (Lockport, NY/Lockport) had two hits apiece.
Grabowski swung the big bat in game two, going 2-for-3 with a pair of solo home runs. Cunningham had two hits, two RBIs, and two stolen bases and Ryan Gleason (Auburn, NY/Auburn) also had two hits.
Pat Urckfitz (Penfield, NY/Penfield) picked up the win in relief, throwing 1 2/3 hitless, scoreless innings.
