MCC nine splits with Erie
ROCHESTER - The MCC baseball team split a doubleheader with Erie Community College Tuesday, winning 7-2 in the opener before falling 6-5 in the nightcap.
The Tribunes are 27-12 on the year. They will host Region III rival at 1 p.m. Thursday.
Pat Corrigan (Rochester, NY/Rush-Henrietta) went the distance in game one, scattering six hits and striking out two. He got all the support he would need in the bottom of the first.
Kaleb Cunningham (Canton, NY/Stockton) was hit by a pitch and moved to third on a single by Dan Kaplan (Rochester, NY/Penfield). Nate Grabowski (Pennellville, NY/Phoenix) then launched a three-run homer to put MCC on the board.
Cory Brownsten (Lockport, NY/Lockport) then followed with a solo homer to give the Tribunes a 4-0 lead. MCC added one in the second on a groundout by Grabowski and two in the fifth on RBI singles from Brownsten and Steve Muoio (Webster, NY/Webster Thomas).
The Kats prevailed in game two on the strength of a solo homer in the top of the seventh. MCC put runners on first and second in the bottom of the seventh, but Jeff Osler's (Frankville, ON/St. Mary's) long fly ball was tracked down in center field.
Kaplan and Grabowski each had two hits for the Tribunes. Muoio added a two-run double that gave MCC a 5-3 lead in the bottom of the fifth.
