MCC top seed in this weekend's WNYAC Tourney
ROCHESTER - The MCC baseball team has earned the top seed in this weekend's Western New York Athletic Conference baseball tournament.
The Tribunes received a first-round bye and will play Alfred State at 12 p.m. Saturday in the first semifinal at Dwyer Stadium in Batavia. The other semifinal, at 3 p.m., will feature Genesee CC and Jamestown CC. The championship game is scheduled for 6 p.m.
MCC (8-2) finished the regular season tied atop the standings with Genesee, but the Tribunes received the top seed on the strength of a doubleheader sweep of the Cougars on Sept. 6.
Keith Geil has paced the offense so far. The sophomore infielder leads the conference with a .500 batting average (12-for-24) and is tops on the team in slugging and on base percentage. Freshman Kevin Johnson is hitting .400, while Chase Grissom leads the WNYAC with 11 RBIs.
The pitching staff has been strong all season and carries a 2.22 ERA into the tournament. Grant Nadeau (0.64 ERA) and Jason Beaumont (1.69) are each 3-0, while Pat O'Boyle is 2-0 and has yet to allow an earned run.
Tribune pitchers have accounted for three shutouts and have allowed just 53 hits in 69 innings.
