MCC sweeps Alfred State
ROCHESTER - The 12th-ranked MCC baseball team picked up two important regional victories Thursday, sweeping rival Alfred State by the scores of 4-1 and 11-6.
MCC is now 29-12 overall and 5-1 in Region III, Division II play.
The Tribunes rode the arm of Steve Forster (Webster, NY/Webster Schroeder) and the bat of Steve Muoio (Webster, NY/Webster Thomas) to the victory in game one.
Forster picked up his fifth win of the year, tossing a complete game four-hitter while striking out seven. Muoio provided all the offense Forster would need, slamming a two-run homer and adding a sacrifice fly.
Nate Grabowski (Pennellville, NY/Phoenix) had a hit and two runs scored for the Tribunes, while Matt McGovern (Ottawa, ON/Gloucester) drove in the other run on an RBI groundout.
Game two was a back-and-forth affair. The Pioneers scored three in the top of the first, but MCC responded with three of its own on a wild pitch, an RBI double by Muoio, and an error.
Alfred scored two more in the top of the second, but Monroe plated four in the bottom half to take the lead. Dan Kaplan (Rochester, NY/Penfield) and Grabowski had RBI hits and Cory Brownsten (Lockport, NY/Lockport) chipped in with a two-run single.
MCC put the game away with four in the fifth. Pat Corrigan (Rochester, NY/Rush-Henrietta) had the big hit with a two-run double.
Brownsten, Muoio, and Kaleb Cunningham (Canton, NY/Stockton) had two hits apiece for MCC. Mike Tokessy (Kanata, ON/Earl of March) got the win in relief, throwing 3 2/3 scoreless innings of relief.
