MCC sweeps Mercyhurst
ROCHESTER - The MCC baseball team picked up a pair of key regional victories Saturday, defeating Mercyhurst North East 13-0 and 8-2.
MCC is 26-11 on the season, including 3-1 in Region III, Division II competition.
The Tribunes scored four in the first and six in the second to take an early 10-0 lead in game one. Matt McGovern (Ottawa, ON/Gloucester) provided the big blow, a grand slam in the first. He later added a sac fly and finished with five RBIs.
Tom Schiller (Rochester, NY/Brighton) went the distance to pick up the shutout. The sophomore allowed two hits and struck out six.
Kaleb Cunningham (Canton, NY/Stockton) went 2-for-3 with two runs scored for MCC. Nate Grabowski (Pennellville, NY/Phoenix) added two hits and two RBIs, while Dan Kaplan (Rochester, NY/Penfield) also drove in two.
McGovern earned his fifth win in game two, allowing two unearned runs and striking out four.
Cunningham had two hits and three runs scored to pace the offense. Cory Brownsten (Lockport, NY/Lockport) added a double and three RBIs and Kaplan drove in two more runs.
