MCC nine sweeps Ithaca JV
ITHACA - The MCC baseball team swept its third consecutive doubleheader, defeating the Ithaca JVs 6-4 and 5-4 to improve to 14-8 on the season.
The Tribunes trailed 3-1 entering the top of the seventh in game one. Dan Kaplan (Rochester, NY/Penfield) and Nate Grabowski (Pennellville, NY/Phoenix) both singled, and Cory Brownsten (Lockport, NY/Lockport) followed with a two-run double to tie the game at three.
Steve Muoio (Webster, NY/Webster Thomas) then put MCC up with an RBI single. But the Bombers responded with one in the bottom of the seventh to tie the game at four.
The game remained tied into the ninth. Grabowski hit an RBI triple and Muoio drove in a run with a groundout to put MCC up 6-4. Josh Michalko (Fairport, NY/Fairport) then put Ithaca down in the bottom of the ninth for the victory.
Monroe raced to a 5-0 lead in the nightcap before the Bombers fought back. An RBI single in the bottom of the seventh cut the lead to 5-4, but Michalko came on to induce a double play and a groundout to pick up the save.
Kevin Prue (Windham, CT/Windham) got the win in relief for MCC. Kaleb Cunningham (Canton, NY/Stockton) had two hits and two RBIs, while Grabowski and Matt McGovern (Ottawa, ON/Gloucester) each had two hits and one run batted in.
