Tribunes finish season at World Series
ENID, OK - Another successful baseball season came to an end for MCC, as the Tribunes fell 13-5 to Des Moines Area CC Sunday evening at the NJCAA Division II World Series.
Monroe finishes with a record of 27-19.
The Tribunes spotted the Bears a run in the top of the first before exploding for five runs in the bottom of the third. Joe Polichetti (Dunkirk, NY/Dunkirk) and Olivier Bertrand (Sainte-Adele, QUE/Polyvalente-des-Monts) had RBI singles to put MCC up 2-1.
Ronnie Stout (Medina, OH/Medina) followed with a two-run double and Jordy Smola (Greece, NY/Greece Odyssey) played Stout with a single for a 5-1 lead.
Those were the last runs MCC would score, however. DMACC then came through with one in the fourth, two in the fifth, four in the sixth, and five in the seventh to put things away.
Cole Nelson got the win for the Bears, tossing 3 2/3 innings of scoreless relief and striking out six.
Smola finished 3-for-4 with an RBI. Polichetti and Bertrand each had two hits and an RBI and Mike Tomeno (Webster, NY/Webster Thomas) added a hit and a run scored.
