Eunice walks off with victory
ENID, OK - Jordan Bourque hit a walk-off grand slam with one out in the bottom of the ninth to lift LSU-Eunice to an 11-7 victory over Monroe CC in the opening round of the NJCAA Division II World Series.
The Bengals (49-10) now advance to the winner's bracket. The Tribunes (27-18) will head to the loser's bracket, where they will face Des Moines Area CC at 7 p.m. (CDT) Sunday.
MCC raced to a 5-0 lead in the top of the first. Joe Polichetti (Dunkirk, NY/Dunkirk) and Olivier Bertrand (Sainte-Adele, QUE/Polyvalente-des-Monts) had RBI singles and Ronnie Stout (Medina, OH/Medina) ripped a two-run double. Stout came home on a wild pitch to make it 5-0.
LSU got one back in the bottom of the first before Monroe scored again in the top of the second. Justin Urschel (Clarence, NY/Clarence) doubled and scored on a single by Andrew Larsen (Seattle, WA/Roosevelt).
Urschel later added a solo homer to give MCC a 7-5 lead, but the Bengals got a pair of unearned runs to tie the game and set up the dramatic bottom of the ninth.
Larsen finished 4-for-4 with a run and an RBI for the Tribunes. Urschel was 2-for-4 with three runs scored.
