MCC golfers cruise to regional title
ITHACA - The Monroe Community College golf team continued its perfect season, winning the NJCAA Region III Golf Championship by 63 strokes at Robert Trent Jones Golf Course.
MCC finished with rounds of 311 and 295 for a total of 606. Second-place Mohawk Valley CC finished at 669.
Tyler Phillips (Williamson, NY/Williamson) was first overall with a 74-72-146 for the Tribunes, who had the top three golfers and four out of the top five.
Chris Malec (Webster, NY/Webster Thomas) was second with a 78-73-151, while Taylor Page (Holley, NY/Holley) was third with a 79-76-155.
Ben Finn (Gananda, NY/Gananda) was fifth overall with an 84-74-158. Jordan Wilson (Phelps, NY/Midlakes) was eighth with an 80-80-160.
Next up for MCC is the national tournament, which will take place June 2-5 at Chautauqua Golf Course in Chautauqua, NY. The Tribunes won the national title in 2006.
