Malec, Tribunes extend lead at nationals
CHAUTAUQUA, NY - The MCC golf team continued its blazing start at the 2009 NJCAA Division III national tournament at Chautauqua Golf Club, firing a 292 on Wednesday to take a 23-stroke lead at the midway point of the championship.
The Tribunes have a two-day total of 577, which is 1 over par. Second-place Burlington County College has a 600 while Louisburg CC is third at 602.
Chris Malec (Webster, NY/Webster Thomas) vaulted into the individual lead for Monroe, firing a 6-under-par 66 to put himself at 7-under for the tournament. Teammate Taylor Page (Holley, NY/Holley) shot a 73 on Wednesday and is in second place at 3-under.
Ben Finn (Gananda, NY/Gananda) shot a 74 and Jordan Wilson (Phelps, NY/Midlakes) rounded out Wednesday's scoring with a 79.
Tyler Phillips (Williamson, NY/Williamson) had an 80. The top four scores are taken per day for the total team score.
MCC has done much of its damage on Par 5's. The Tribunes are a combined 17-under-par on Par 5's through the tournament's first two days.
