Tribunes capture second straight Region III title
ROCHESTER - Danny Kuntz (Rochester, NY/Churchville-Chili) recorded his fourth shutout of the season as the MCC hockey team defeated Hudson Valley CC 3-0 Sunday.
The win clinched the second straight Region III title for Monroe (16-3-1). The Tribunes will be the top seed at the national tournament and will receive a first-round bye.
Kuntz finished with 22 saves for MCC.
After a scoreless first period, the Tribunes struck twice in the second. Matt Sauer (Walworth, NY/McQuaid) and Tom Pappa (Oswego, NY/Oswego) each scored to give Monroe a 2-0 lead.
Jeff Osler (Frankville, Ont./St. Mary's) added an empty-netter in the third to put the game away.
Sauer and Pappa also added assists for MCC. Matt Peck (Chili, NY/Gates Chili) and Allan Campisi (Webster, NY/Webster Thomas) had helpers as well.
The national tournament is Feb. 29 through March 2 in Canton, NY.
