Tribunes take two from Canton
CANTON, NY - The MCC hockey team earned a Region III sweep over the weekend, twice defeating host SUNY Canton 5-3 to improve to 7-1-1 on the season.
The second game produced the most drama, as Canton raced to a 3-0 lead after the first period. But the Tribunes stayed focused and scored five unanswered to come away with the win.
Tom Pappa (Oswego, NY/Oswego), Allan Campisi (Webster, NY/Webster Thomas), and Chris O'Connor (Greece, NY/Greece Athena) all scored for MCC, which won its sixth straight and improved to 7-1 in regional play.
Andrew Hartman (Greece, NY/Greece Athena) and Matt Sauer (Walworth, NY/McQuaid) also found the net. Danny Kuntz (Rochester, NY/Churchville-Chili) made 23 saves in goal.
Pappa scored the game-winner with 4:47 remaining to help give Monroe the 5-3 win on Saturday. Chris Matott (Rouses Point, NY/Northeastern Clinton) and Andy Orsini (Irondequoit, NY/West Irondequoit) also tallied goals.
Jeff Osler (Brockville, Ont./St. Mary's) and Kyle Easton (Churchville, NY/Churchville-Chili) rounded out the scoring. Kuntz had another strong game with 22 saves.
MCC will travel to Mohawk Valley on Wednesday to try and avenge its only loss of the season. The Tribunes will host Broome CC at 2 p.m. Saturday.
