Coon's goal lifts Monroe
ROCHESTER - Devin Coon’s (Sandy Creek, NY/Sandy Creek) power-play goal midway through the third period gave the top-ranked MCC hockey team a 4-3 win over No. 4 Broome CC Saturday evening.
Coon’s goal helped the Tribunes avoid a big collapse. MCC took a 3-0 lead before the Hornets responded with three straight goals of their own to even it up.
Dan Going (Wilton, NY/Saratoga Springs) got the Tribunes on the board in the first period. Second-period goals by David Roberts (Brockport, NY/Brockport) and Bobby Thomaris (Elmira, NY/Elmira Notre Dame) made it 3-0.
Broome then came back with three of their own to tie it up. Coon's game-winner came just after the Hornets had pushed across the equalizer.
Rick Hennard (Royal Oak, MI/Royal Oak) made 29 saves in goal. Monroe outshot Broome 61-32.
The win moved Monroe’s record to 18-3 on the season. The Tribunes sport a perfect 9-0 record against Region III opponents.
