Burns, Belin honored by BCANY
ROCHESTER - MCC men's basketball head coach Jerry Burns and sophomore forward Jeron Belin (Meriden, CT/Maloney) were honored by the Basketball Coaches Association of New York after another successful season.
Burns was named the 2008-2009 Junior College Coach of the Year. Belin was lauded as the Player of the Year.
In his 18th season, Burns led the Tribunes to a 30-7 record and a sixth-place finish at the NJCAA Division II national tournament. It was the fourth time Burns has amassed 30 wins in a year and he currently has a sterling 454-115 overall record. He was also named the Region III and District 2 Coach of the Year.
Belin, a 6-7 sophomore, averaged 14.3 points and 6.1 rebounds per game while shooting 55 percent for MCC. He was Monroe's leading scorer in regional play and was also named the Region III, Division II Player of the Year.
Kareem Brown (New London, CT/New London) and Mark Lake Jr. (Harlem, NY/All Hallows) were named to the BCANY All-New York State second team. Brown led the Tribunes in scoring at 15 per game while Lake averaged 12.9.
