Men's lax off to hot start
ROCHESTER - The MCC men’s lacrosse team started the season on a great note, winning twice over the weekend.
The Tribunes traveled to Hartwick College and defeated defending national champ Nassau CC 18-17 on Saturday. Monroe then returned home and defeated Finger Lakes CC 13-5 on Sunday.
Nate Delone (Rush-Henrietta) had four goals and an assist against Nassau, including the game-winner with two minutes remaining.
Mark Dwyer (Nantucket) and Chris McWilliams (Canandaigua) each added three goals, while Tyler Kleehammer (Irondequoit) and Nick Mooney (Webster Schroeder) had two goals apiece.
Marc Groth (Fayetteville-Manlius) made 29 saves in the cage.
Lantz Carter (Northwestern) had a huge game to help Monroe top Finger Lakes. The sophomore had five goals and two assists. Mooney added four goals, while Dwyer and Delone had two each.
Groth and Pat Stasio (Williamsville North) combined to make 11 saves.
