MCC advances to regional finals
ROCHESTER - Essex County College brought an end to the MCC men's soccer team's season Saturday, defeating the Tribunes 2-0 in the Northeast District semifinals.
MCC ends the season with a record of 7-8-2. Essex will play either Massasoit CC or Bryant & Stratton at 3 p.m. Sunday for a chance to go to the national tournament.
Sheldon Palmer had a goal and an assist for the Wolverines (14-2-2). He set up the game's first goal in the 37th minute, beating Tribune goalie Tony Pipitone (Scottsville, NY/Wheatland-Chili) to the ball and finding Mike Kernizan in front for the score.
Palmer then put the game away 89th minute when he scored to give Essex a two-goal lead.
Pipitone played well again for the Tribunes, making nine saves.
