Men's soccer advances to district finals
FRANKLIN, MA - Jeff Ford (Hilton, NY/Hilton) scored in overtime as the MCC men's soccer team defeated Globe Institute 2-1 in a Northeast District semifinal game at Dean Colelge Saturday.
The Tribunes (13-2-2) will now face either Mercer County CC or Massasoit CC in the finals Sunday at 11 a.m. The winner of that game will advance to the NJCAA Division I national tournament Nov. 15-18 in Tyler, TX.
The Tribunes went up 1-0 in the first half on an own goal. MCC sent a corner kick toward the Globe goal when it bounced off one of the Globe defenders and into the back of the net.
GI tied the game in the second half to force the overtime. About six minutes into the first 10-minute extra session, MCC was awarded a direct kick. Ford received the kick and beat the Globe goalie for the winner.
Tim Knight (Greece, NY/Greece Olympia) played well in goal for MCC.
