Men's soccer splits over the weekend
BALTIMORE - Stephen Coke (Bronx, NY/Taft) scored two goals as the MCC men's soccer team defeated Essex County College 2-1 Sunday afternoon.
The victory gave Monroe (4-1) a split of a pair of weekend games. The Tribunes lost to 10th-ranked Mercer County CC 2-1 on Saturday.
Coke, MCC's leading scorer a year ago, scored his first goal just 18 seconds into the game to give the Tribunes a 1-0 lead over Essex. The sophomore then added his second goal early in the second half to break a 1-1 tie.
Sophomore co-captain Dom Colaprete (Spencerport, NY/Spencerport) assisted on both goals.
Saturday's game was a rematch from the district finals a year ago, which was won by Mercer 1-0. Charles Maxwell (Pittsford, NY/Pittsford Mendon) made eight saves for the Tribunes. Coke scored MCC's goal.
