MCC wins regionals, advances to nationals
CORNING - Sam Jones (Addison, NY/addison) hit a walk-off home run with two outs in the ninth inning of game one and MCC went on to sweep Mohawk Valley CC to claim its fourth straight regional championship.
The Tribunes (36-9) will now advance to the NJCAA Division III national tournament, May 14-16 in Rochester, Minn. MCC will be vying for its fourth straight national title.
Jones finished 3-for-5 with two RBIs in the 5-4 game one victory. Alyssa Devaney (Victor, NY/Victor) finished 3-for-4 with two runs batted in.
The Tribunes won game two 5-4. Mohawk got two runners on with two outs but Lindsey Grace (Honeoye, NY/Honeoye) came on for the save.
Liz Dennis (Canastota, NY/Canastota) had three hits, including a solo home run for MCC. Stephanie Wagar (Greece, NY/Greece Arcadia) was 2-for-3 with a solo homer.
Grace was named tournament MVP, while Jones and Dennis were named to the All-Tournament team.
