MCC softball splits twinbill
ROCHESTER - The MCC softball team split a Sunday doubleheader with Mercyhurst North East, dropping the first game 7-6 before coming back to win the nightcap 11-3.
The Saints won the first game in eight innings. The Tribunes had the bases loaded with no outs in the bottom of the eighth, but a hard-hit line drive turned into a double play and helped MNE escape with the victory.
Mary Jayne (Penn Yan, NY/Penn Yan) and Amanda Page (Batavia, NY/Batavia) each had three hits to pace MCC. Sam Rollins (Hornell, NY/Hornell) chipped in with two hits and two runs batted in.
In game two, Lindsey Grace (Honeoye, NY/Honeoye) tossed six strong innings for the victory. The freshman allowed one run on three hits and struck out six.
Rollins finished 3-for-4 with three runs scored and three RBIs. Samantha Jones (Addison, NY/Addison) added three hits and two RBIs, while Jessica French (Springwater, NY/Wayland-Cohocton), Page, and Kira Wagar (Rochester, NY/Greece Arcadia) each had two hits and two runs batted in.
The Tribunes are 9-9 on the season.
