Tribune softball sweeps MNE
ROCHESTER - The third-ranked MCC softball team picked up two impressive wins Wednesday afternoon, defeating Mercyhurst North East 3-1 and 6-0 to improve to 11-9 on the season.
Emily Burgess (Lyndonville, NY/Lyndonville) got the win on the mound in the opener. The sophomore allowed one run on just two hits while striking out six.
Amanda Page (Batavia, NY/Batavia) and Liz Dennis (Canastota, NY/Canastota) each had two hits for MCC. Sam Rollins (Hornell, NY/Hornell) went 1-for-2 with a run and an RBI, while Stephanie Wagar (Rochester, NY/Greece Arcadia) and Mary Jayne (Penn Yan, NY/Penn Yan) each drove in a run.
The Tribunes got another strong pitching performance in game two. Lindsey Grace (Honeoye, NY/Honeoye) got the win, going five innings while allowing two hits and striking out eight. Jackie Dean (Horseheads, NY/Horseheads) came on to toss two hitless innings.
Page had the big bat in the nightcap, going 2-for-3 with a home run and four RBIs. Rollins went 2-for-3 with two runs batted in, and Jayne and Kira Wagar (Rochester, NY/Greece Arcadia) added two hits apiece.
