MCC swimmers capture opener

ROCHESTER - MCC's men's and women's swimming and diving teams started the season on a winning note Wednesday, defeating Alfred State in a Region III dual meet.

The Tribune (1-0) men topped the Pioneers 124-60, while the Monroe women (1-0) prevailed 96-35.

A handful of double winners sparked the victories.  On the men's side, Kyle Bree (Newark, NY/Newark) won the 500 freestyle (5:40.31) and the 1000 free (11:46. 34), while Kevin Burns (Ravena, NY/R-C-S) placed first in the 100 back (57.40) and the 200 free (1:50.96).

Renzo Alvarez (Clearwater, FL/JW Mitchell) also won twice, in the 200 IM (2:08.37) and the 100 breaststroke (1:07.51).

For the women, Kathryn Lohrman (Webster, NY/Webster Thomas) won the 50 free (26:42) and 100 free (57.63). 

Hali Snow (Hamlin, NY/Brockport) took first in the 100 fly (1:06.49) and the 500 free (5:45.18), while Meghan Rickelman (Prescott Valley, AZ/Prescott) won the 200 free (2:04.37) and 100 back (1:05.21).

Other winners for the men were:

Cory Deacon (Scottsville, NY/Wheatland-Chili) - 50 free - 24.18

Thomas Deiure (Rochester, NY/Eastridge) - 1-meter diving - 231.15

Eric Hallimen (Fairport, NY/Fairport) - 3-meter diving - 234.95

Single event winners for the women:

Nadia Keenan (Fairport, NY/Fairport) - 1000 free - 14:36.15)

Andrea Berger (Conesus, NY/Livonia) - 1-meter diving - 176.55

Megan Vandewinckel (Ontario, NY/Wayne) - 3-meter - 175.10
