MCC swimmers capture regional titles
Results
ROCHESTER - The MCC men's and women's swimming and diving teams continued their dominance in the pool as each team captured the 2009 Region III/Northeast District championship.
It was the 10th straight title for the Tribune men. The Monroe women won for the fifth consecutive time.
Sean McNamara (Auburn, NY/Auburn) was named the men's Outstanding Performer of the Meet for MCC after a terrific weekend. The freshman finished with three individual titles and set a meet record with a time of 47.67 in the 100 freestyle Sunday.
Head coach Dan Dubois was named the Region III/Northeast District Men's Coach of the Year.
The MCC men had a handful of other winners on Sunday. Daniel Branca (Panama City, Panama/St. Mary's) won the 1650 free in 17:02.53 for his third win of the weekend. Renzo Alvarez (Clearwater, FL/J.W. Mitchell) also won for the third time, placing first in the 200 breaststroke (2:20.36).
Caleb Ludlow (Geneseo, NY) won the 200 fly (2:12.57) for Monroe. Liam Dooley (Honeoye Falls, NY/HF-L) finished first in the 200 back stroke (2:11.77).
On the women's side, Hali Snow (Hamlin, NY/Brockport), Bethany Peris (Horseheads, NY/Horseheads), and Ashley Burns (Ravena, NY/R-C-S) each won for the second time this weekend.
Snow placed first in the 200 fly (2:25.41), while Peris won the 1650 free (19:48.89). Burns took home first in the 200 back (2:18.64).
