MCC finishes season at nationals
BUFFALO - The MCC men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams wrapped up their respective seasons at the NJCAA national meet in Buffalo over the weekend.
The Tribune women took home third place, while the men finished fourth. Indian River swept the team titles, with its men winning for the 35th straight year and the women for the 28th consecutive year.
MCC’s ladies finished with 423 points. IRCC had 938, and second-place Darton College had 670. The Monroe men had 272 points, finishing behind Indian River (1026.5), Lincoln College (651.5), and Darton (521).
MCC’s top finisher was Daniel Branca (Panama City, Panama/St. Mary’s), who finished second in the 200 freestyle (1:40.11). Branca also finished sixth in the 500 free (4:42.47).
Grant Oosterling (Newark, NY/Newark) took home a pair of fourth-place finishes in diving. Oosterling scored 364.10 points in the 3pmeter and 315.10 in the 1-meter.
Renzo Alvarez (Clearwater, FL/J.W. Mitchell) was seventh in the 400 IM (4:22.42) and Sean McNamara (Auburn, NY/Auburn) was seventh in the 100 back (55.49).
Hali Snow (Hamlin, NY/Brockport) had a great meet for the Monroe women. The freshman placed third in the 200 fly (2:23.77) and fifth in the 100 fly (1:04.36).
Snow was also part of the third-place winning 200 free relay team (1:44.71), along with Elise Wilkin (Avon, NY/Avon), Bethany Peris (Horseheads, NY/Horseheads), and Courtney Gruschow (Henrietta, NY/Rush-Henrietta).
The same four ladies helped the MCC 400 free relay team take fourth in 3:51.38.
Peris also finished fourth in the 1,650 free in 19:18.46. Ashley Burns (Ravena, NY/RCS) was fifth in the 400 IM (5:02.30), and Gruschow was seventh in the 50 free (25.28).
