Morrell's record highlights MCC victory
ROCHESTER - Mallory Morrell (Rush, NY/Rush-Henrietta) broke a 24-year-old MCC and Region III record to highlight the Tribunes' dual victories over Erie CC and Jamestown CC Wednesday evening.
Morrell won the 50 freestyle in a time of 24.18. That just beat out Laura Peel, whose former mark of 24.19 was set in 1986. Peel's record was an NJCAA record at the time.
Morrell helped the Tribune women top Jamestown 91-14 and Erie 87-20. The Monroe men defeated Jamestown 92-14 and Erie 87-20.
Jennifer Conklin (Pittsford, NY/Pittsford Sutherland) was a double winner for MCC, taking first in the 500 free (5:33.84) and 1000 free (11:12.95). Morrell also won the 100 free in 54.27.
On the men's side, Elijah Kingston (Avon, NY/Avon) placed first in the 500 free (5:21.81) and 1000 free (10:57.75). Tom Deiure (Rochester, NY/Eastridge) won the 1-meter (216.60) and 3-meter diving (219.90).
MCC's other double-winner was Taylor Stewart (Owego, NY/Owego Free), who won the 200 free (1:50.88) and the 100 fly (58.06).
