MCC swimmers claim regional/district titles

ROCHESTER - With a triumphant leap into the pool, the MCC men's and women's swimming and diving teams celebrated yet another pair of championships.
The Tribunes wrapped up a stellar three days with titles at the Region III/Northeast District championship meet (team scores below). It was the 12th straight for the Monroe men, and seventh straight for the women. MCC head coach Dan Dubois was named the women's District Coach of the Year.
Mallory Morrell (Rush, NY/Rush-Henrietta) set meet records as she won the 50, 100, and 200 freestyles, earning women's Outstanding Performer of the Meet. She was also part of four first-place relays.
Other triple winners for the women were Jennifer Conklin (Pittsford, NY/Pittsford Sutherland) in the 200 fly, 500 free, and 1650 free, and Ashley Wumkes (Rochester, NY/Churchville-Chili) in the 200 back, 200 IM, and 400 IM.
On the men's side, Taylor Stewart (Owego, NY/Owego Free Academy) and Brian Roberts (Middletown, NY/Middletown) shared men's Outstanding Swimmer of the Meet honors. Stewart took first in the 100 fly, 200 fly, and 500 free, while Roberts won the 100 breast, 200 breast, and 200 IM.
Sophomore diver Tom Deiure (Rochester, NY/Eastridge) had another successful meet, winning the 1-meter and 3-meter diving events.
MCC now advances to the NJCAA National Championship meet, which will be held in Buffalo March 2-5.
