TC3 wins in walk-off fashion

ROCHESTER - Tompkins Cortland CC scored the game-winning run with two outs in the bottom of the seventh inning to top MCC 5-4 and advance to Saturday's championship game.

The Tribunes (38-10) now drop to the loser's bracket in the double elimination tournament and will have to win three games Saturday to capture their fourth consecutive national title.

MCC raced to a 4-0 lead early on.  Gabrielle Elsbree (Albany, NY/Academy of the Holy Names) had an RBI double in the first and Lene'e Gray (Niagara Falls, NY/Niagara Falls) added a two-run base hit in the second.

Elsbree put MCC up 4-0 in the top of the third with a long home run to center.

TC3 responded in the bottom of the third with four runs to tie the score.  It remained that way until the seventh.

The Tribunes loaded the bases with no outs in the top half before a bizarre play left MCC with two outs, but the bases still loaded. The next batter singled, but a Monroe runner was called out for leaving a base too early and the inning was over.

TC3 responded in the bottom half, getting a base hit, a sacrifice, and a walk before the game-winning hit to left field.

Elsbree finished 3-for-3 with two RBIs for Monroe.  Liz Dennis (Canastota, NY/Canastota) added a double and a run scored.

MCC will play College of DuPage at 12 p.m. Saturday.  The winner of that game will advance to play TC3 and have to win twice to claim the title.
