MCC wins pool play, falls in title match
WATERTOWN, NY - The MCC volleyball team won its pool play division and advanced to the finals before falling to eventual champion Corning CC at the Jefferson Community College Tournament Saturday.
The Tribunes finished 4-1 on the day and are 4-4 overall.
Sarah Zelko (Horseheads, NY/Horseheads) totaled 26 kills, 42 assists, and 22 digs on the tournament. Sarah Kuperus (Newark, NY/Newark) chipped in with 26 kills and 16 blocks.
MCC took down Corning, Tompkins Cortland, and Onondaga as it finished perfect in pool play. The Tribunes then defeated Jamestown in the semifinals before losing to Corning in the finals.
Kelsey Brown (Lyndonville, NY/Lyndonville) added 17 kills, 14 blocks, and 12 aces for MCC. Symphony Samuels (Henrietta, NY/Rush-Henrietta) had 24 kills and Tamara Robertson (Victor, NY/Victor) had 15 kills and 16 digs.
Also contributing were Katie Lasch (Greece, NY/Greece Arcadia) with 16 kills and 12 blocks, Jordan Bandera (Syracuse, NY/Solvay) with 42 digs, and Lisa Stefanik (Greece, NY/Greece Arcadia) with 37 assists and 16 digs.
